Investors in People Accreditation
What is it?
Investors in People is the UK’s most successful framework for business improvement through people management. The Investors in People Framework underpins everything they do. Based on 20 years of leading practice, it was designed by business, for business. Written in consultation with customers, employees and people management specialists, it provides a path to organisational change.
Created to meet the ever-evolving needs and challenges of today’s businesses, the Framework gives you a tangible way to drive your business forward. The benchmark for any well-run organisation, it signals to customers and employees your commitment to good business and people management excellence.
Barrhead Housing Association has seen significant change since 2005. Our staff have adapted and continue to adapt to change within the organisation and to our external environment. In 2009, we decided that to recognise our significant improvement, we would embark on the Investors in People accreditation framework – this would allow recognition and success improvement to be recognised and awarded through this external and independent review using the Investors in people framework. An IIP assessor worked with us to understand our environment and our practices and we were awarded the accreditation for the first time in 2009. In 2012, we made further improvements and were recognised under the Investors in People Bronze Award. Following our three year re-assessment in January 2015, we pleased to report that we have achieved Investors in People Silver award. Achieving Investors in People accreditation illustrates our dedication to our employees and demonstrates a solid foundation of good practice which remains challenging and aspirational for many organisations.
Investors in Young People is the only people management standard that focuses on an employer’s recruitment and retention of young people. It represents a trust commitment to the training and development of young people and demonstrates that we are an employer of choice for young people. Launched in July 2014, Investors in Young People originated through a key recommendation from the Commission for Developing Scotland’s Young Workforce, led by Sir Ian Wood. The accreditation if offered to all businesses across Scotland and exists to recognise and support organisations across Scotland in the employment of young people. We are delighted to achieve Investors in Young People Good Practice Award at our assessment in January 2015.
Healthy Working Lives Gold Accreditation
This award programme supports employers and employees to develop health promotion and safety themes in the workplace in a practical, logical way, that’s beneficial to all. Achieving a Healthy Working Lives Award celebrates success, and gaining one has helped our organisation reap the benefits of providing a healthier and safer workplace. Supported by healthy working lives assessors, staff have achieved all the awards up to the gold standard. We re-assessed in August 2013 to retain Gold. We promote healthy eating, physical activities, health campaigns, and have fun along the way. The biggest achievement through both healthy working lives and our Investors in People accreditation awards has been the steady decline in staff absence due to illness. We achieved 99.5% attendance for 2013/14.
